The Art Students League of Denver provides an inclusive art community where professional artists guide individuals of all abilities to reach their highest potential. Art Students League of Denver and Lighthouse will be hosting a series of drop-in writings and art-making events leading up to the keynote.

Claudia Rankine's Citizen is a book that is a haunting combination of prose, poetry, essay, photography, and visual art. Using Citizen, as a model, CPAC and Lighthouse look at how images can tell their own story, and how combining image and text can serve as a powerful and effective mode for our own stories.

The Spring Cafe is a place where you can meet your international neighbors and learn about global cultures. We make our coffee shop a classroom, by employing refugees and providing training programs designed to prepare them to enter the customer service industry. The Spring Cafe was founded by Spring Institute for Intercultural Learning, a non-profit serving Denver’s immigrant and refugee community.

Can you imagine moving to a new country, where you have to learn a different language, and try to find a job all in a matter of months? The Spring Cafe works with refugees who have a desire to work in the customer service industry by offering hands-on training and English practice behind the register. Not only do they have to learn English, but they have to learn the peculiar language of customer service!


Coffee at the Point's mission is to provide a common neighborhood place for individuals to purchase and enjoy coffee and quick foods while providing a relaxed and nurturing environment.


The mission of Curious Theatre Company is to engage the community in important contemporary issues through provocative modern theatre.

Join Curious and Lighthouse Writers Workshop in a free staged reading adaptation of Claudia Rankine’s Citizen: An American Lyric as part of the Denver Talks project. Please RSVP as tickets are limited. Adapted for the stage by Stephen Sacks.

The play takes Rankine’s text and marries it to the theatrical art form. Using images and a blend of storytelling styles, six actors interpret Rankine’s work into a powerful evening of exploring racism today.
